Are You Funny?
Then why not come to one of my comedy courses? They cater to all levels of ability, from absolute beginner to working professional. I provide skills training, knowledge of how to develop your career in comedy, and a warm and friendly environment in which to experiment.
I offer the following comedy courses:
2-Day Residential Standup Comedy Course
This is an intensive course in standup comedy, by the end of which you will have a five-minute act, and will be booked to perform an open slot at a professional comedy club. Over the course of a weekend’s retreat you will write and rehearse your act, and learn to perform it to best effect. The range of tutors will help you with different disciplines, and within 48 hours, you will be ready to take to the stage! Cost: £395 (inc. accommodation and food)
6-Week Standup Comedy Course
This is our standard comedy course, and it will teach you how to take your ideas, and to develop them into jokes with a tight, comedic structure. At the end of the course, everyone will perform their acts at a graduating comedy night, and there will be the opportunity to get bookings at that performance. Modules include: stage persona, generating material, joke structure and delivery, act structure, the industry: competitions and agents, and others taught by specialist tutors. Cost £199
6-Week Character Comedy Course
This course is designed to get your unique character out of your brain and onto the stage. Although they are disproportionately successful, character acts are often neglected as a way into the industry. Modules include: finding your character, having the courage to perform your character, stage presence, dealing with hecklers, work opportunities for character acts, and more. Cost: £199
6-Week Comedy Writing Course
This course is designed for those who are funny, but don’t feel the need to perform. It will help you find markets for your material, help you develop it to a stage where it can be taken to production companies and channels, and give you basic skills in structure and creating funny scenes. We will look at writing for standups, sketch shows, topical shows, developing sitcoms, working with producers and finding an agent. This is intended for someone who is seriously considering taking the leap into comedy-writing, and wants to be well-prepared for what they find. Cost: £199
1-Day Beginner’s Introduction to Comedy
Take your first steps in comedy, and explore the different avenues available: stand-up, sketch shows, comic acting, podcasting. You will get experience of performing in front of a small, supportive group, and will learn how to generate material from your own life, and structure jokes. We’ll explore confidence on stage, and how to conquer stage-fright. This course will nurture and develop your talent, and give you ideas about how to develop it. Cost: £50
Individual Tuition
If none of the courses is quite right for you, I also offer individual tuition tailored to your needs. Cost: from £35 / hour
I also offer one-to-one tuition and career advice. In order to book a place on any of these course, please email or ring me on (07815) 903943.
